Q & A

SHDSL (Single-pair High bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) is a dedicated business-grade service that delivers symmetric speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps. The service is oriented towards the business customers who traditionally relied on T1’s and dedicated SDSL for mission critical Internet applications.

SHDSL compares favorably to traditional forms of dedicated access, such as SDSL and T1.
  • SHDSL is a new standard that provides higher reliability than traditional SDSL.
  • Unlike SDSL service offered by CLEC’s, our SHDSL is offered in partnership with Verizon, eliminating any middlemen and streamlining provisioning process.
  • G.SHDSL standard allows bundling multiple lines to achieve higher speeds while avoiding costly DS3 loops.
  • SHDSL service can be provisioned in a fraction of time it takes to install a traditional T1 loop.
  • It offers reliability equal or superior to that of T1 at a lower cost.
Q & A

Q. Why do I need to order SHDSL, if I can get AceDSL® service at half the price?

A. While we are confident that our traditional AceDSL® service, based on ADSL technology, can adequately fulfill the needs of even the most demanding Internet user, we also believe that some of you can extract more value and peace of mind from SHDSL.

We would like to recommend SHDSL especially to those subscribers who are using their Internet connections for such mission critical applications as corporate Web hosting, Voice over IP and remote applications.

Q. What is involved in SHDSL installation?

A. After your order is processed by Acecape, Verizon will schedule an appointment to install the line. A copper pair dedicated to your SHDSL service will be terminated at the NID (Network Interface Device), i.e the panel where phone lines enter customer premises. Any inside wiring is a sole responsibility of the customer.

We recommend that a dedicated phone jack be installed on premises prior to the SHDSL installation appointment. At the time of the appointment, Verizon technician should be instructed to connect the new line to the existing inside wire, thus allowing customer to verify synch at the desired phone outlet.

Q. Will there be a telephone number assigned to my SHDSL line?

A. There is no dial tone on the SHDSL line. The line is used for data transmission only.

Q. Do I get Static IP addresses?

A. You can receive either one IP or a block of 8 IP addresses (/29), depending on your requirements. These are publicly routed IP addresses with no port filtered.

IMPORTANT: You must configure your Router/Firewall in such away that it responds to ICMP pings at all times.

Q. In a nutshell, what are the guarantees provided by your SLA?

A. In the event that your SHDSL line is down, through no fault of your own, for a period of 4 hours but less than 24 hours, you will receive one day (1/30th of monthly rate) of free service.

If the downtime continues for more than 24 hours, you will receive a credit in the amount equal to no greater than 25% of your monthly rate. If the service is not restored within 5 business days you can terminate your annual agreement without any penalty.

Q. What equipment will be provided?

A. At the time of your order, you will purchase Prestige 782M SHDSL modem. Currently this is the only SHDSL modem approved by Verizon labs and no other modem/router can be supported at this time.

We realize that your Network Administrator might have a personal preference with respect to the type of router he/she would like to use, which is why the modem provided is a stand-alone bridge with a single Ethernet hand-off.
